In the spring of 2020 we’re ogranizing a series of webinars for adoptive parents, prospect adoptive parents and adult adoptees. On this site you can find more info about the English webinars and sing up for them. Here you can find also our Finnish and Swedish webinars!

Building Resilience – Webinars on Adoption

Together with our Adoption Support Group Finland we organise a series of webinars covering different themes. The webinars are meant for adoptive parents, prospective adoptive parents and adult adoptees.

The Building Resilience – Webinars on Adoption webinars are held in English and organized once a week on Thursday afternoons. Below you can see the dates, themes and links for sign-up. Sign up for the webinars you’re interested in!

Attendance is free of charge. Applicants in the adoption process can receive a certificate of attendance that can officially account for training hours.

Week 15

Time: Thursday 9th of April from 5pm till 6pm

Theme: Abandonment and Adoption, A gateway for complex personal experiences
Speaker: Hilbrand Westra (The Netherlands)
Introduction: Hilbrand Westra is a trainer specialized in Migration and Displacement, and InterCountry Adoption and Trauma development. In the Netherlands he is acknowledged as one of the National Systemic Specialist involving Complex family trauma and couple trauma. A Korean adoptee himself, Hilbrand was awarded for his contributions in the field of adoption by the King of the Netherlands and was awarded as Knight in the order of Orange Nassau.

Week 16

Time: Thursday 16th of April from 6pm till 7pm
Theme: Adoption and race: A presentation of a study on everyday racism in Sweden as experienced by adoptive parents and adoptees
Speaker: Tobias Hubinette (Sweden)
Introduction: Tobias Hübinette has a Ph.D. in Korean studies and is a lecturer and a researcher at Karlstad University teaching intercultural studies. He has conducted research on adoption for many years and in particular in relation to issues of race.

Week 17

Time: Thursday 23rd of April from 5pm till 6pm
Theme: One identity, multiple countries. The construction of Identity in Adolescent Adoptees.
Speaker: Margarita Soledad Assettati (Italy)
Introduction: Margarita Soledad Assettati was born in Chile and adopted in Italy when she was 8 years old. She is now a psychologist and psychotherapist Certified Transactional Analyst and EMDR. Margarita has been working in the field of adoption and foster care for 20 years, in particular with adolescent children. She is passionate to promote the well-being of adoptees in their family and social context.

Week 18

Time: Thursday 30th of April from 6pm till 7pm
Theme: Facing the adoption crisis: resources and networks
Speaker: Mariagrazia La Rosa (Italy)
Introduction: Mariagrazia La Rosa is a mom through birth and adoption. A digital consultant by day, she spent years collecting tough experiences of adoptive parents in Italy and collected these testimonies in two successful books published by Booksprint. One was adapted to a theatre show. She is passionate about sharing her experience for the benefit of other families.

Week 19

Time: Thursday 7th of May from 5pm till 6pm
Theme: Creating connection
Speaker: Sarah Fisher (UK)
Introduction: Sarah Fisher is a trained and experienced NVR UK accredited Practitioner and Educator and a qualified Rapid Transformational Therapy Practitioner. A single adoptive mother herself, she runs workshops, group programmes and supports parents on an individual basis worldwide.

Week 20

Time: Thursday 14th of May from 6pm till 7pm
Theme: Parenting children who are violent and aggressive.
Speaker: Al Coates (UK)
Introduction: Al Coates MBE is an adoptive parent to six children, a former foster carer and a Social Worker. He is the co author of two reports in to Child to Parent Violence and trains nationally and internationally on the issue.
